Northampton Jail and VINE Records
Northampton County publishes no official inmate roster or booking log. The verified Northampton County custody chain is the Eastern Shore Regional Jail at 757-678-0440, Virginia VINE or VINELink, and then the VADOC locator after a state transfer. VINE can provide custody status and notices for transfer, release, escape, or death. A person may vanish from a custody lookup after release while a court case remains pending.
The regional jail opened in May 2007 as an 85,500-square-foot, 248-bed facility, replacing a 93-year-old, 30-bed jail. It serves Northampton and Accomack and has an on-site magistrate. That short physical distance helps explain the rapid creation of bail and court records, but the jail file and judicial file remain distinct.

Northampton Criminal Records Through Time
Eastville's recordkeeping role reaches far beyond today's portals. County sources describe a continuous county-seat tradition from 1632, with the court moving to the present Eastville area in 1677. The surviving 1731 courthouse was later relocated, and a courthouse built in 1899 was renovated in 2011 for administration. Historic Court Green still includes an old clerk's office and debtors prison. The sheriff once rang the courthouse bell to summon court.

Northampton County has no incorporated cities. Its three largest incorporated towns are Exmore, Cape Charles, and Nassawadox. Exmore and Cape Charles have police departments, while Nassawadox does not have a municipal police records desk. None has a municipal court.
